Things to Do in Downtown Calgary
The biggest outdoor show on earth -- the Calgary Stampede -- certainly provides an annual excitement to the city, but there’s always a buzz in this vibrant downtown core. Restaurants and bars line the streets of the central business district here, especially on the famous Stephene Avenue and 17th Avenue.
17th Avenue and Stephen Avenue are lined with incredible places to eat, grab a drink, and people watch from the street facing patios. It’ll take you a long time to try every spot, but you’ll have a blast doing it.
There are seven different Calgary restaurants that have made the top 100 Best Restaurants in Canada list, including Shokunin, Bridgette Bar, Ten Foot Henry, and Lulu Bar. Not to be outdone, Proof Cocktail Bar on 1st Street was put in the top five for Canada’s best bars.
There are many gyms in downtown Calgary as well, for those to like to get their sweat on in the city. There’s many incredibly popular fitness studios that offer yoga, spin, kickboxing, pilates classes, and more, but also great gyms to sign up with.
Repsol Center in Mission is a gym with all of the equipment you’ll need, with swimming pools, tennis courts, and so much more. GoodLife is a popular chain of fitness centers with flexible plans that also allow you to switch up which gym you’d like to visit. The GoodLife on Stephen Avenue used to be a bank, with the changing rooms inside the old bank vault!
See the various sculptures, museums, and galleries in the downtown area. Public art has become very popular in the downtown core of the city, with notable pieces like the Wonderland Sculpture, ideal for your Instagram feed.
